Canterbury option for Maori students
Maori student enrolments at the University of Canterbury are up 11 percent in 2017.
Vice-chancellor Rod Carr says it’s too early to know whether the Government’s fees-free policy is encouraging school-leavers to stay in Christchurch and study.
He says the post-quake trend for locals leaving the city to attend universities elsewhere has lessened.
That the city is putting the quakes behind it can also be seen in the 24 percent increase in international students, including a 20 percent increase in first year students from overseas.
