Panel to consider to Waikato clean up plan

Waikato Regional Council has appointed four of five independent commissioners to hear its Healthy Rivers/Wai Ora: Proposed Plan Change .
The plan change is the first step in an 80 year plan to make the rivers swimmable and safe for food gathering along their entire length.
Council chair Alan Livingston says panelists must have experience as independent hearings commissioners and extensive working knowledge of the Resource Management Act and the vision and strategy for the Waikato River.
He says they bring a balanced mix to the table with special technical expertise in resource management planning and law, rural community and farming knowledge and matauranga Maori/tikanga perspective.
The panel will be chaired by resource management planner Greg Hill and includes
Former Hauraki District Council mayor Basil Morrison, environment law specialist Trevor Robinson and another lawyer, Sheena Tepania, who has extensive experience in iwi environmental management
Hearings for the proposed plan change are expected to commence in late 2018.
