Ngapuhi pride maintained in Waitangi reset

Tamaki Makaurau MP Peeni Henare says he feels a cautious optimism among Maori from this week’s Treaty of Waitangi commemorations.

Mr Henare says with her words and actions Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern showed she wanted no barriers between her Government and the people.

Ngapuhi held up its end, making the day a celebration like he remembers from his youth and turning round the media narrative of recent years.

"I’ve spoken to many relations since Waitangi Day and they are all so proud our people held themselves with dignity and proud Ngapuhi mana," Mr Henare says.
