Mike King shortlisted for the 2018 New Zealander of the Year awards
Comedian turned mental health advocate Mike King has made the finals for the 2018 New Zealander of the Year.
The other finalists for the Kiwibank-sponsored accolade are Kristine Bartlett, the aged-care worker whose multi-year legal battle ignited debate around pay equity, and microbiologist and researcher Siouxsie Wiles, who is doing world-leading work on antibiotic-resistant superbugs and infectious diseases.
Chief judge Cameron Bennett says the three may come from different backgrounds and work in different fields, but they share admirable attributes of conscience, courage and commitment.
He says they are making a positive difference for all New Zealanders.
Other finalists include justice reform advocate Kim Workman in the seniors category, and in the local hero catgegory, Kaitaia's Ricky Houghton and south Auckland's Dave Letele.
