English reminded te reo for all
Former prime minister Bill English got a dressing down at Ratana for his comments on te reo Maori.
Welcoming the National Party leader to the hui where he has been a regular guest since 2001, Kingitanga speaker Rahui Papa took offence at his statement last week that Maori can't rely on a Government and a bureaucracy to save someone else's language.
Mr Papa said te reo Maori belonged to all New Zealanders.
He said even in Opposition Mr English should support the aspirations and goals of Maoridom.
Mr English used the platform to tell the morehu they should hold on to their rangatiratanga rather than become believers again in government and its cash.
He said the best thing for New Zealand is that the momentum of Maori confidence and self-determination is maintained.
