Ardern pledges Government of manaakitanga

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says she wants her Government to learn from Maori ways of addressing problems.
Ms Ardern told the hui at Ratana yesterday the Labour-New Zealand First-Green Government is ambitions, but it will need help to meet its objectives.
She says it’s important to get the basics right, like making people heave warm, dry and affordable homes, and work that gives dignity.
She says she wants Aotearoa to be the best place in the world to be a child, and that means eliminating child poverty,
"I want to be a Government that brings back manaakitanga, that brings back a sense of compassion and ethics and kindness in what we do, and to that we should turn to Maoridom and see the work that was done in Christchurch and Kaikoura and Te Puea, that where there was need marae opened their doors and responded to the need of the people. That is the kind of Government we want to be," Ms Ardern says.
