Tamariki high on Labour agenda
Manurewa MP Louisa Wall says a caucus retreat over the past two days has allowed Labour to firm up its strategic direction for the year.
With most items on its 100 day action plan set to be ticked off by the February 3 deadline, MPs and Ministers are looking ahead to what will go into the Budget in May.
Ms Wall says the emphasis on whanau on the mini-budget and lifting families out of poverty have resonated with the public.
"What we've tried to do is to be very clear there are issues of inequality in our country and so for that to be our first substantive piece of legislation, people should look at that and say 'Wow, that's what Labour is going to do.' We are not going to leave anyone behind and particularly our children. We have to make sure they are growing up in a warm safe dry whare," she says.
