Ngati Toa look to the oranga of it’s awa

Ngati Toa Rangatira wants to knows how health the shellfish in its awa are.
It's calling for volunteers for an assessment of shellfish in the Onepoto arm of Porirua Harbour this Saturday and Sunday.
Conducted with the support of Greater Wellington Regional Council, the survey will collect data on the abundance and size of four culturally important shellfish species: cockles, pipis, mud whelks and mudflat topshells.
The information will feed into the Te Awarua-o-Porirua Harbour catchment project, in which the community is working with the catchment committe
e on improving the quality of the harbour’s water.
