Rahui Papa given tribal negotiation role
Waikato-Tainui has appointed its former executive chair Rahui Papa as the negotiator for outstanding Treaty of Waitangi claims.
Mr Papa stood down from Te Arataura earlier this year to contest Hauraki Waikato for the Maori Party.
He previously held the role of interim negotiator.
Parekawhia McLean, the chair of the tribal parliament Te Whakakitenga o Waikato, says he brings vast experience of tribal affairs, knowledge and history.
Two members of Te Arataura, Hinerangi Raumati-Tu’ua and Linda Te Aho, have been appointed to the board of Tainui Group Holdings, replacing outgoing directors Hemi Rau and Tukoroirangi Morgan.
Ms Raumati-Tu’ua is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, while Ms Te Aho is an Associate Professor in Law at the University of Waikato.
