SOUL targets Fletchers shareholders

Fletcher Building shareholders will get notice this morning that tangata whenua are unhappy with where some of their dividend is coming from.
Supporters of Save Our Unique Landscape or SOUL will picket the company’s annual meeting at Auckland War Memorial Museum held to protest plans to build 480 houses at Ihumatao near Auckland Airport.
The development will destroy an area that was the site of continuous Maori occupation for almost 800 years until it was confiscated in the Land Wars.
SOUL wants work to stop while the new Government considers a call to reassess the consent made by the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
The demonstration could be swelled by Fletchers workers protesting for their pay to keep up with the cost of living.
