Marae sound base for business challenge
The Young Enterprise Trust has wrapped up series of challenges aimed at getting rangatahi Maori interested in business.
Programme development head Shane Wratt says it’s a group the trust finds hard to reach, so it designed the wananga with the Maori Development Ministry Te Puni Kokiri and the Ministry for Business, Innovation and Employment.
Last week’s Maori business challenge at Waahi Pa with students from Waikato area high schools showed in the right context those rangatahi will show they are creative, bold, inventive, and have talents that can be brought out with inspiration and mentoring.
"They can speak with confidence. They can do that if they are in a safe and supportive environment and the marae-based learning helps us achieve that. Their confidence to come and speak, these guys have got that already. It's just about them having the grounding and the base skills and the thinking behind their concept that really makes it work," Mr Wratt says.
