Ruha contribution to te reo recognised

Musician Rob Ruha’s efforts to promote te reo Maori through music will be helped by a $50,000 Laureate Award from the Arts Foundation.
This other laureates to be honoured at a ceremony on November 6 include actor Jemaine Clement, filmmaker Niki Caro, contemporary dancer Ross McCormack and artist Robin White.
Artist Tiffany Singh will receive a $25,000 new generation award.
Foundation director Simon Bowden says this year the awards focused on the process of making something, rather than the final product.
For Ruha, that means a lot of his practice is out with young Maori singing and talking to them about language and being a real advocate for Maori language.
