Henare shows wool handling class
The spring shearing season has started, and that gives Maori in the industry a chance to shine in competitions.
Joel Henare from Ngati Porou picked up the open wool handling title at Waimate in south Canterbury at the weekend, his 93rd career win and his sixth title in a row.
The senior wool handling prize went to Evelyn Turepa from Gore and the junior competition was won by Tyler Hira from Onewhero in Waikato.
Doug Laing from Shearing Sports New Zealand says it's a testament to Henare's dedication.
"Absolute commitment to the wool industry. Joel also takes a strong part in commenting at events when he's not competing. You wouldn't find a more committed guy," he says.
