Maniapoto CEO’s decade of achievement
Maniapoto Maori Trust Board is looking for a new chief executive.
Board chair Tiwha Bell says Janise Eketone has stepped down after 10 years.
He says Ms Eketone has made an enormous contribution to the Waipa and King Country iwi, moving the tribe forward with her focus and commitment.
Milestones include the signing in August of an agreement in principoe to settle its historic treaty claims, and the earlier Nga Wai o Maniapoto (Waipa River) settlement, which required setting up co-governance and co-management arrangements with crown agencies and local government.
She has also led the development and implementation of iwi strategies such as the Waikahika education strategy, including the creation of Te Pukeiti Early Childhood Centre in Te Kuiti.
Ms Eketone says she is looking for new opportunities as well as spending quality time with her young family.
