Blue Springs grab alarms iwi

A company which wants to bottle millions of litres of water from Putaruru’s Blue Springs Te Puna has come up against united opposition from the local iwi.
Raukawa Settlement Trust chair Vanessa Eparaima says after extensive consultation with marae, uri and kaumatua the trust decided it won’t give written support to the NZ Pure Blue Springs Limited resource consent.
That means the application can’t be considered on a non-notified basis, and Waikato Regional Council must decide whether its will be notified just to affected persons or publicly notified so the general public can make submissions.
Ms Eparaima says Raukawa has concerns about the potential impact on water quality, the levels of water being taken, as well as that the nation is not managing water sustainably and acknowledging its importance for all New Zealanders.
