Taonga Maori expert on Arts Council


Taonga Maori conservation expert Dean Whiting has been appointed to the Arts Council of New Zealand.
Mr Whiting, from Te Whanau a Apanui, is Heritage New Zealand’s Maori heritage manager.
He has worked in private practice as a conservator for marae communities and is also a board member of the International Council on Monuments and Sites New Zealand.
Arts, Culture and Heritage Minister Maggie Barry says his significant knowledge of te ao Maori and Maori arts and heritage make him an ideal person to fulfill the current vacancy on the board.
