Bilingual Rotorua launched

Rotorua has become the country’s first bilingual city and district.
The initiative, launched at a ceremony at Rotorua Lakes Council this afternoon, will be led by Te Tatau o Te Arawa, the council’s iwi partner, with support from council and Te Puni Kokiri.
Te Tatau chair Te Taru White says Rotorua is the birthplace of cultural tourism in Aotearoa and Bilingual Rotorua is an opportunity to build on that foundation.
He expects social, cultural and economic benefits.
Rotorua Mayor Steve Chadwick says feedback from the community on the long term Vision 2030 plan identified strong culture as a key element of what makes the district special.
