Turei getting comeuppance – Peters

New Zealand First leader Winston Peters says the Greens' Metiria Turei is getting her comeuppance for a massive miscalculation on her campaign over the benefit system.
Ms Turei has been under fire since sharing that she failed to disclose flatmates while getting an accommodation supplement in the early 1990s.
It culminated yesterday with MPs David Clendon and Kennedy Graham quitting the Greens' caucus over Ms Turei's refusal to step down as co-leader.
Mr Peters says he was disgusted by the way the pair were treated.
"That was pretty sordid stuff and it told me there is a certain element in the Greens who are so opinionated they don't have any regard for anyone else's impressions and views and that came down big time yesterday at parliament before they tried to shut it down," he says.
Mr Peters says anyone who has known real poverty would know better than to use it as a political weapon.
