Harawira pushes Taitokerau two for one strategy
Mana leader Hone Harawira believes changes at the top of the Labour Party have boosted his chances of returning to parliament.
With Jacinda Ardern replacing Andrew Little as party leader, Te Taitokerau MP Kelvin Davis was chosen by the caucus as the deputy – meaning he also takes the number two spot on the party list.
Mr Harawira says people in the electorate see that as an opportunity to have two MPs.
"I'm up for the long campaign, I'm up for the strong campaign, but if I can get back into parliament without having to get into an ugly little fist fight with my whanaunga Kelvin, then all the better. He'll get back in as number two on Labour's list and I will get back in as the reinstalled member of parliament for Taitokerau and i think the whole of Taitokerau will be a lot happier because of that," he says.
Kelvin Davis says it's important to him to gain the mandate from Taitokerau voters, regardless of his place on the list.
