New Maori Wai-Whanau journal breaks stronghold of other literature

Te Whanau o Waipareira Trust has released a research journal highlighting successful initiatives, strategies and approaches to delievering social services to Maori.
Co-Editor of Te Kura Nui o Waipareira, Professor Meihana Durie says the journal gives voice to whanau experiences living urban lives.
He says that more importantly it highlights accountability benchmarks back to whanau.
Professor Durie says the research journal breaks the strong hold other academic literature has on indigenous knowledge.
"We need to find valid ways of sharing the successes of our people also sharing some of the challenges and trials that our people encounter and face. Looking at the research as being part of the broader journey of filling aspirations and also being able to live by kaupapa and guided by tikanga and doing it the way which makes sense to us, he says.
