Rua Kenana wananga chance to listen to nga korero tukuiho

Re-enactment of the arrest of Rua Kenana and followers at Maungapohatu

Ngai Tuhoe prophet Rua Kenana will receive a statutory pardon from the crown which will restore the mana of the whanau, the people of Maungapohatu and the followers of the Ihiraia faith.

In preparation for the pardon wananga are being held to pass down korero and information about the rangatira, his deeds and the events that led to his wrongful conviction.

Wananga have been held in Ruatoki and Rotorua with the third one scheduled for Tamaki Makaurau at the end of this month.

Wananga kaikorero Nika Rua says this is a time for korero and sharing amongst the people.

"The wananga have essentially been a platform for those to learn more and experience nga korero tukuiho." says Nika Rua.

The Tamaki Makaurau wananga is scheduled for Saturday July 29 at the Papakura RSA.
