Kai or doctors tough choice for whanau

Labour MP for Manurewa Louisa Wall says many whanau in South Auckland are having to choose between visits to their local GP or putting kai on the table.
She says the cost of GP visits has almost doubled over the last 10 years from $28 in 2008 to $42 in 2017, forcing whanau to make a choice.
"So many people are unable to go to the doctors, I don't think it's a choice, $42 is a lot of money and that puts a lot of food on the table as we know," says Louisa Wall.
The Manurewa MP says the impact of high GP fees is long term.
"If we don't get primary health right then that's going to impact on our hospitals because people will end up going to hospital for preventable illnesses so it is incumbent on the government to ensure that we have a pool of GP's I believe who can address this issue of cost," says Louisa Wall.
