Rangatahi video puts suicide talk out in the open
Maori health workforce development organisation Te Rau Matatini has released the last of four videos aimed at giving rangatahi the tools to address suicide.
Chief executive Maria Baker says the videos, which are part of the Maori and Pasifika suicide prevention programme Waka Hourua, were made with input from rangatahi.
The latest instalment, Out in The Open, is a myth-busting video that tackles the stigma about talking about suicide and suggests ways young people can assist each other.
"As Maori and as young people I daresay they want to know and understand and address the issues, they want to seek out the support for their own issues and goals and be skilled up as natural helpers amongst their own peer network," Ms Baker says.
The videos and other resources can be found on the campaign website, www.wakahourua.co.nz
