Red rating for Maori Land Service plan
Labour Ikaroa Rawhirti MP Meka Whaitiri says Treasury's red flag on the proposed Maori Land Service indicates major problems with the project.
Treasury’s Interim Major Projects Monitoring Document reveals Treasury concerns about implementation, transition planning, new technology design and timeframes.
It also says there was no investment proposal or suitable business case ready to support Budget 2017 decisions.
Ms Whaitiri says Maori Development Minister Te Ururoa Flavell’s unpopular Maori land reforms hinge on the success of the proposed service.
She says the Treasury assessment confirms the fears of Maori landowners whose submissions to the select committee looking at Te Ture Whenua Maori Bill questioned the lack of detail about the service,.
Ms Whaitiri says Mr Flavell has known about the concerns for months but kept them hidden from Maori.
