Whanau first in terror attack reaction
A Maori businessman living in London says the city is not letting itself be cowed by the latest terrorist attack.
Seven people were killed and 48 injured, including New Zealander Oliver Dowling, when three men who crashed a van into pedestrians at London Bridge and then ran into nearby pubs and restaurants stabbing people.
Maori lawyer and businessman Karl Burrows from Ngati Maru Wharanui, runs a business consultancy Hakaworks, and says while people were shocked with the attack they get on with making the most of the city they love.
"I suppose like the people at home you immediately think of your loved ones and the people who are important to you and you want to make sure they are okay and they usually are, this is a city of 10 million and not a lot of people died but it's still makes you think about what is important to you as a person – it's your whanau, it's your tamariki and you can't help but ring them up and say 'how are you? Thinking about you," he says.
