Iwi get early look at crown land sale plans
Land Information New Zealand has created an online portal that will make it easier for iwi to get information about surplus government properties.
Maori Development Minister Te Ururoa Flavell says under the right of first refusal process included in treaty settlements, iwi have a standard 20 days to consider an offer.
The Crown Property Disposals Portal iwi will give iwi up to 18 months notice a Crown property will be disposed of, so they can plan accordingly.
More than 1200 properties have been added to the portal database in the past year, including properties set aside for future treaty settlements.
It has more than 200 users, including iwi, crown agencies, local authorities and accredited suppliers that dispose of crown property.
