Taranaki chair hands over baton
Te Kahui o Taranaki Iwi chair Tokatumoana Walden is retiring after 21 years with the post-settlement governance body and its predecessor, the Taranaki Iwi Trust.
He says it has been hard yakka, but he is proud of the trusts’ achievements, including the completion of the tribe’s fisheries and historic claims settlements.
He says 96 percent of registered members voted on the ratification of the tribe’s deed of settlement, the highest proportion of voters ever in a treaty settlement process, showing the passion Taranaki people have for their iwi and rohe.
Six nominations have been received to fill the seat, with voting starting on June 14.
