Tears and hope for Love appeal
The Court of Appeal is set to hear an appeal by former Wellington Tenths Trust chair Sir Ngatata Love.
Love is serving a two and a half year sentence for taking a payment from the developer of land near parliament owned by the trust.
His daughter Dr Catherine Love says he maintains his innocence, and tomorrow's appeal will be on points of law regarding the payment.
She says the 80-year-old has a serious heart condition and the family is growing more concerned the longer he stays in Rimutaka Prison.
"Dad is a very positive person and he will keep his chin up and do positive things. He is writing a book. He is working with other inmates in education areas as much as he can. It's really the whanau. When we leave him and walk out the prison gates, most of the whanau just cry all the way home," Dr Love says.
The first opportunity Sir Ngatata Love will get for parole is in August.
