NZ First opposing Paoa reserve plan
New Zealand First has joined Labour in opposing the sale of Point England Reserve for housing.
A bill allowing the government to sell 11 hectares of the open space to Ngati Paoa or other developers is likely to get a second reading this month.
Speaking at a protest on the reserve on Saturday, New Zealand First leader Winston Peters said once the reserve was gone it would be done for good.
He says the 300 dwellings planned will make little difference to Auckland’s housing crisis and National needs a better plan to use suitable Crown local authority land for housing, rather than stealing reserves.
