Maori digital ideas unveiled

Everything from tourism to tertiary education apps, games and language concepts have made the finals of DigMyIdea, a Maori innovation challenge sponsored by Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development.
Judge and ATEED board member Mike Taitoko says what many of the applications had in common was the use of technology to improve the lives of whanau, rather than just producing another app.
He says it’s vital that more Maori are encouraged to enter the thriving technology and innovation sector.
The final ten individuals and teams in the mauri oho category for 15 to 25 year olds and mauri tu category for 26 years and up will attend the DIGIwananga mentoring workshop this weekend as part of Techweek 17.
On Sunday they will find out who in each category has won $10,000 in business start-up assistance to help commercialise their idea.
