High profile team to help Fox win Ikaroa Rawhiti from Whaitiri

Maori Party co-leader Marama Fox has a high national profile, but she will need to garner more support throughout Ikaroa Rawhiti if she is to take the seat from Labour’s Meka Whaitiri in the September 23 election.
She has put together a similarly high-profile team, chaired by Ngati Kahungunu head Ngahiwi Tomoana with businesswoman Mavis Mullins as campaign director.
The campaign manager is Mere Takoko, who stood in East Coast for New Zealand First last election.
Ms Fox says it feels like everyone else has been campaigning for months.
"We spend all our time as co leaders responding to things up and down the country. We try and spend as much time in our own electorates as we can but we have 20 weeks to go before the election and we will need to concentrate our efforts in the electorate and respond intermittently, when needed, across the rest of the country," says Marama Fox.
The campaign starts this weekend in Gisborne, where Ms Whaitiri won every booth in 2014.
