Ngarimu scholars add to proud tradition
Education Minister and Ngarimu Trust chair Hekia Parata says the achievements of this year’s crop of Ngarimu VC and 28 Maoir Battalion scholarship winners is breathtaking.
The winners were acknowledged at a function in parliament last night.
The three Ngarimu Masters scholarship winners were Ana Montgomery-Neutze, who is in New York studying documentary filmmaking, Maia Wikaira who is studying environmental law and policy at Stanford University, and Auckland law student Arena Williams, who plans a thesis on taxation policy and law for Maori entities.
Undergraduate scholarships went to Ezekiel Raui, Tekiteora Rolleston-Gabel, Kaahu White, Tipene James and Jack Potaka.
Ms Parata says Mr James and Mr Potaka both went to Rotorua Boys high.
"That was the school I visited a couple of weeks ago to celebrate that 100 percent of their hostel had passed NCEA level one, two or three, so they are continuing their academic record with these young people being awarded scholarships from the Ngarimu VC and 28 Maori Battalion Trust'" she says.
Ms Parata says she’s proud she has been able to modernise the trust during her time as chair.
