Robin Hapi to chair economic development board


Former Aotearoa Fisheries chair Robin Hapi has been appointed to chair the Maori Economic Development Advisory Board, which oversees the Crown-Maori Economic Growth Partnership.
The board also advises ministers and government agencies about opportunities for Maori economic development and engagement with Maori stakeholders.
He replaces Ngati Kahungunu chair Ngahiwi Tomoana.
Maori Development Minister Te Ururoa Flavell says Mr Hapi from Ngati Kahungunu has extensive experience in the fisheries industry and corporate governance.
He also chairs Te Wananga o Raukawa and sits ion the boards of Callaghan Innovation, Te Matawai and Te Pou Matakana.
Four new members were appointed to the board – Ngati Kuri chair Harry Burkhardt, entrepreneur Shay Wright, Waipareira director of social impact and innovation Awerangi Tamihere and Steve Saunders, the co-founder of Newnham Park Horticulture Centre at Te Puna.
The other members are Hilton Collier, Debbie Ngarewa-Packer, Pania Tyson-Nathan and Professor Linda Smith.
