Important to stay in Land and Water forum says iwi leaders advisor

A member of the iwi team participating in the Land and Water Forum says it’s important iwi stay in the process.
Forest and Bird has pulled out because it says the Government ignores the forum’s recommendations, which represent the consensus of a wide range of stakeholders.
But Willie Te Aho says membership is voluntary, and five iwi groups have judged it’s still worth being at the table with central and local government and key sector groups talking about issues like who gets priority to water.
"So we’ve got a lot of Maori lands but also lands that we got back through settlements that need water. We need to be a part of confirming our right to water and then implementing that allocation," says Willie Te Aho.
