Greens put green option on table

Green MP Marama Davidson says it’s time to legalise cannabis.
As of last week doctors no longer need to get ministerial approval to prescribe non-pharmaceutical cannabis-based products, but can get sign off from the Health Ministry.
Ms Davidson says the Greens believe the issue goes further than medical marijuana, with harsh drug laws having a major impact on Maori and Pacific people.
The policy drew support at the weekend’s Big Gay Out in Auckland.
"So many of the people people coming up to our tent or talking to us in the crowd understood the link between decriminalising cannabis and bringing down our prison populaiton and spending that big lot of money that goes into prisons instead into support," Ms Davidson says.
