Party values align for government in waiting

Green’s co-leader Metiria Turei says the weekend’s joint state of the nation event with Labour showed supporters and the public how the parties are ready to work together.
The speeches by Ms Turei and Labour’s Andrew Little were well-received, even though they were light on new policy.
She says it was deliberate attempt to restate values.
"My job and the job for Andrew Little was to bring our two parties' memberships to understand we have really common values with Labour. We don't agree with everything on a policy basis but we do have lots of common values and that's what matters most, and then we can work things out like any kind of normal family does," Ms Turei says.
The Greens intend to complete selection of candidates in five of the seven Maori seats by March so it can campaign hard for Maori list votes.
