Ngati Whakaue stalwart Stuart Harris dies

Ngati Whakaue and Te Arawa are mourning Stuart Rotohiko Te Haupapa Harris, who died at Rotorua Hospital on Christmas Day.
He was 79.
Mr Harris, the youngest son of Witarina and Reginald Harris, was born in Wellington and worked as a carpenter before moving as an adult to Rotorua to work at the New Zealand Maori Arts and Crafts Institute.
After taking early retirement for health reasons he became a trustee on Pukeroa Oruawhata Trust, and also served on a number of other tribal organisations.
Along with his brother Bernie he was prominent during the Maori fisheries settlement, debating the terms of the agreement and the structures Te Arawa set up to manage its share.
