Christmas cheer for Kaikohe whanau

Te Runanga a Iwi o Ngapuhi today delivered almost 80 hampers around Kaikohe and the north to struggling families.
Spokesperson Karen Kaka says the initiative started last year with 40 hampers because of concern about homelessness and growing poverty, and the need hasn’t abated.
The hampers contain gifts, the raw materials for Christmas dinner and other staples to tide whanau over the holiday season.
"The families don't expect to get it so it's quite humbling and this year I wanted the staff to go out and watch the reacitons of our families because then it stays in their minds and they are willing to help out even more," Ms Kaka says.
The hamper contents were donated by local charities, companies like Fonterra, Orangewood Orchards and ASB Bank, supermarket owners Eric Ruish and Jason Witehira, and a number of Kaikohe businesses
