Online journal for indigenous wellness

Tackling intergenerational whanau violence and using native ponies as a way to heal young native Canadians are among the topics covered in the second edition of Te Mauri: Pimatisiwin – the journal of indigenous well being.
The online publication was gifted to Maori health workforce development organisation Te Rau Matatini at last year’s Healing the Spirit conference by its Canadian founders.
Te Rau Matatini’s Marama Parore says the journal is an important way for indigenous academics to share their research and views.
"This is not about non-indigenous people writing about us. This is about us writing about us and about us giving voice to solutions we believe exist within ourselves to deal with some of the not so great things that have happened to us as indigenous peoples. We’re saying very clearly to mainstream ‘stop thinking you can fix us, we know how to fix ourselves, the solutions lie within ourselves,’" she says.
