Otautahi council works closely with runanga
Christchurch City Council has signed a relationship agreement with the six Ngai Tahu papatipu runanga with the city and Banks Peninsula boundaries.
Mayor Lianne Dalziel says it’s a landmark in the evolution of civic and tribal diplomacy.
She says a strong partnership with the runanga is a crucial element in the council’s vision for the future of Otautahi.
The agreement creates a committee of representatives from the runanga, the mayor, the deputy mayor, the chairs of council committees, along with a representative from the multicultural working party, which will meet quarterly.
