All or nothing approach to Waikato plan change
Waikato Regional Council’s handling of its plan to clean up the Waikato River has hit turbulence.
Six organisations representing horticulture growers and farmers in the Waikato today filed an application in the Hamilton High Court for a judicial review regarding the council’s decision to withdraw part of the area to allow for consultation with Hauraki iwi.
The group believes the council has failed to comply with requirements for the Resource Management Act to ensure integrated management of the natural and physical resources of the region.
It wants the council to withdraw the proposed plan change in its entirety until consultation is complete.
Horticulture New Zealand chief executive Mike Chapman says the group supports the overall aims of the Healthy Rivers Plan.
