Waititi an Arts Foundation favourite
Filmmaker Taika Waititi from Te Whanau a Apanui and artist Peter Robinson form Ngai Tahu are among the winners of this year’s New Zealand Arts Foundation laureate awards.
They each get a no-strings $50,000 to spend however they please.
The other 2016 laureates are writer Eleanor Catton, composer Lyell Cresswell and graphic novelist Dylan Horrocks.
Taika Waititi won an Arts Foundation’s New Generation Award in 2006.
This year the New Generation Awards of $25,000 go to choreographer Parris Goebel, visual artist André Hemer and composer Alex Taylor.
The privately-funded awards will be presented at a gala evening in Aucckand on November 23.
