Tamaki slogan loved by few

Ngati Whatua Orakei Trust is picking a half million dollar slogan for Auckland – the land loved by many – could end up on the scrap heap because of the way the council’s promotions arm ATEED handled the process.
The slogan is a translation of Tamaki Makaurau translation used by Ngati Whatua Orakei and many iwi across the region.
The trust says a lot of time and money could have been saved if Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development had engaged with iwi and the community, instead of indulging in a secret two-year process.
It says trustee Ngarimu Blair was invited in a personal capacity to be part of the initial advisory group for the Global Auckland project, but the group was disbanded almost as soon as it was formed, before any proposed slogans were discussed.
