Halbert misses out on Maungakiekie run

Disappointment for Maori candidate Shanan Halbert in the battle to contest Maungakiekie for Labour in next year’s election.
Despite being active in the electorate for the past three years and chairing of the party’s Kaunihera Maori, he was pipped for the role by another rising party star, Priyanca Radhakrishnan.
Ms Radhakrishnan was ranked at 23 on the party’s list at the last election, which means she would have been an MP if Labour had managed to poll 32 percent.
Since then the former Women’s Ministry policy advisor has worked for Parliamentary Services as a policy, research and communications advisor (ethnic communities) to Roskill MP Phil Goff.
