The last stand of the Maori showbands has been put off until next year.

Maori Volcanics leader Mahora Peters says the death in the United States of a family member of one of the Maori Hi Fives means the shows this month’s tour have been moved to February.

Tickets are still valid or refunds can be given.

The tour will also include members of the Quin Tikis, the Hi Quins and the Castaways.

Ms Peters says the delay means they have added an opening show in Whangarei on February 8, followed by the Manurewa RSA the next day, Rotorua Civic Theatre, Wellington, and there will also be at least one South Island date.

The musicians will run a two week summer showband school in Whangarei in January to pass on some of their skills and stage techniques . . . and it could also serve as an audition for gigs in Las Vegas and Hawaii where showband veterans still hold the stage.
