Maori TV to host indigenous tv conference
Maori Television has won the right to host the World Indigenous Television Broadcasters Conference in 2018.
Speaking at the opening of this year’s conference in Sydney, World Indigenous Television Broadcasters Network chair Tanya Denning-Orman from Australia’s National Indigenous Television says that means Maori Television chief executive Paora Maxwell will chair the organisation for the next two years.
She says Maori TV is seen by other indigenous broadcasters as the leader in the revitalisation of language.
Mr Maxwell says Maori Television hosted the first conference eight years ago, so the 2018 conference will mark the 10 year anniversary of the network.
The World Indigenous Television Broadcasters Network is an alliance of indigenous broadcasters New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Scotland, Norway, Taiwan, TG4 in Ireland and Hawai’i who share programmes and resources.
