Parihaka Para Kore prepare for hui a tau
Para Kore is holding its annual hui at Parihaka next weekend, and it will be talking about more than just cutting down on waste.
Para Kore Taranaki kaimahi Urs Signer says they have invited light earth building expert Grant Steven from Northland Polytechic to talk about his ideas for sustainable building, including the use of raupo, which was an important element in Maori building.
The hui will also hear about the growing mara kai movement more marae gardens, and attendees will get a taste of the land.
"We’ve set up a food forest at Parihaka about 3 or 4 years ago and we're in the process of turning another paddock into an orchard, to have more food for the marae available particularly for the 18th and 19th of every month when the community comes together to talk about Te Whiti and Tohu. Those are the days that the Maara Group of Parihaka really want to support by bringing kai to the tables," says Urs Signer.
