Ahuwhenua sheep and beef contest opens

Maori sheep and beef farmers are being urged to enter the 2017 Ahuwhenua Trophy BNZ Maori Excellence in Farming Award.
Organising committee chair Kingi Smiler says entering is a great way for individual Maori farmers, trusts and incorporations to get valuable professional feedback on their farming operations.
The judges are highly skilled agribusiness professionals.
The Ahuwhenua Trophy was created 83 years ago by then Maori Affairs Minister Sir Apirana Ngata and governor general Lord Bledisloe as a way to encourage skill and proficiency in Maori farming
It went into recess in the late 1980s but was revived in 2003 and has now become a major event on the Maori farming calendar.
Entry forms are on the Ahuwenua Trophy website.
