KIWA technology helps rheumatic fever campaign
Maori technology company Kiwa is helping south Auckland rangatahi to create their own awareness campaign about the dangers of rheumatic fever.
It’s running a workshop today at the Mangere Central Community Hall where 25 Maori and Pasifika youngsters are developing an app to get the message out.
It’s facilitated by KIWA chief executive Steve Renata, poet and performance artist Daren Kamali, and illustrator Munro Te Whata, along with health and education experts and the KIWA tech team.
Mr Renata says the free Beat.fever app will be released later in the month and widely promoted in schools and the community.
National Hauora Coalition clinical director Dr Rawiri Jansen says the event is about giving voice and ownership of the rheumatic fever prevention programme to rangatahi.
The project is supported by the new Rheumatic Fever Maori Community Fund.
