Ideas shared for boosting Maori houses
Maori housing advocates want to develop a national forum to share ideas and boost the numbers of Maori housing projects.
That’s one of the outcomes of last week’s Maori housing conference in Tauranga.
Hui spokesperson Puhirake Ihaka says the hui identified problems like access to finance and restrictions on how Maori can use their land.
He says solutions are emerging, which need to be shared.
"Everybody is at different levels. We in Taurangamoana have a positive programme and have been able to do quite a few new papakainga housing developments here so it is about getting everyone up to the same level, sahre information and use the resources of private sector, government and community," Mr Ihaka says.
